Playoff Update, 10/01/2020

10/1/2020

Good Afternoon,

Well the news is finally out, and YES WE WILL BE PLAYING A HOME GAME NEXT FRIDAY ON 10/9/2020 AT 7 PM.
We will be playing Akron Kenmore High School, and WHEN we win this game, we will have another playoff game at home versus either Nordonia or Lakeside.  Please read the following below:

Since this OHSAA sponsored, there is no opportunity for senior night.  I sent that in a communication earlier on, but I am attaching once again for you to review.  Also, I will be following the same format as we did last game.  All students will need to be temperature checked before entering their seats.  Students will need to wear khaki pants, band shirts, band shoes, and black socks.  Same as before, and yes they can wear sweatshirts and coats in the stands.  Those of you that have been to playoffs before. know it is a very tedious process, so please be patient.

Ticket information will be handled next week.  Now please understand that the kids do not have school that day, and I am making temperature check/call time 5:45 PM.  I will need everyone to start their temp checks by 5:45 and seated by 6:10 PM.  We will once again do pre-game from the stands and then do our halftime show as normal.  Next week, there is Wednesday night practice at 5:30-7:15 PM.  I need all students there, I know kids have homework, etc, but they are not having sectionals next week, so they have plenty of time to catch up on work.  Students need to be at Wednesday rehearsal or they run the risk of not performing.

I know these times are crazy, but I will communicate with you each day next week because of potential changes.  I cannot express to all of you how proud I am of this group.  I have been given many compliments, and truly those compliments all should go to the staff, parents, and students; they are the ones making this work.  Mark your calender's for 10/9 and 10/16, because it will be an amazing ride, and it is our job to get this team fired up and ready!!!!

Keep EMBRACING THE CHALLENGE, Mayfield, and always ROCK ON!!!!  Always excited, always jacked up, always awake early, and ALWAYS HUMBLED AND BLESSED TO BE YOUR DIRECTOR!

Mr. Palermo

Update, 09/30/2020

9/30/2020

Good Morning,

I wanted to inform you of several updates.  The first, and most important is tonight's practice.  I need everyone in your stadium seats by 5:30.  If you are on time, then you are late.  I understand that later today we may be in for some inclement weather.  I will make a decision regarding practice, no later than 4 PM.  I have seen several conflicting forecasts, and I want to make sure I get this correct.  Please come to practice dressed warmly, and with shoe, not slides or sandals.  It will be a bit chilly this evening.

The next bit of information is as follows:

*Starting Monday October 5th, 2020 there will be NO MORE INSTRUMENTAL SECTIONALS.  THE ONLY TWO GROUPS WHO WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE SECTIONALS WILL BE THE DRUM LINE AND THE AUXILIARY.  We will continue to have Wednesday evening rehearsals at 5:30 pm, and it is expected that all be there.  I am pretty confident we will get a home game, so Wednesday practices will continue until we no longer play.

If you have a scheduled sectional this week, it will happen, and this does not go into effect until Monday 10/6/2020.  I am asking that if you have any questions or concerns regarding this decision, to please contact me.  Finally, I should know tomorrow the potential playoff game.  Please stay tuned for that.

Please continue to work hard in school, keep those grades up, and do your best.  I am asking that during your zoom with Mr. Treiber, you spend some time practicing stand tunes.  We need to have them ready for the next game.  As mentioned before, if you have any questions or concerns, I am always available, please feel free to contact me.  EMBRACE THE CHALLENGE AND ROCK ON WILDCATS!!

Humbled and Blessed,

Mr. Palermo

Weekly Update (09/23/2020)

9/23/2020

Good Afternoon,

I am sending this email with a schedule for the rest of this week, and next week's sectional/full rehearsal schedule.  For the rest of this week, there will be no practice this evening, and our next event will be Friday, 9/25/2020, at 3:45.  I need everyone to meet me in the parking lot by the new band room at 3:45 wearing your band shirts, and whatever you want for bottoms and shoes.  We will then proceed to line up for the football team as they enter the bus to take on Chardon.  I would encourage all parents to come and cheer the kids on.  Let's bring some spirit to the school.

As for next week, here is the schedule:

Monday - 9/28/2020 - NO SECTIONALS DUE TO YOM KIPPUR
Tuesday - 9/29/2020 - All Trumpets/Mello's/Trombone/Baritone/Tuba - Sectional from 4:00 - 5:30 pm
Tuesday - 9/29/2020 - Flute and Percussion Sectionals - 5:00 - 6:30 pm
Wednesday - 9/30/2020 - FULL BAND REHEARSAL - 5:30 - 7:15 PM
Thursday - 10/1/2020 - Clarinet/Saxophone Sectionals - 4:30 - 6:00 PM
Thursday - 10/1/2020 - Percussion Sectionals - 5:00 - 6:30 PM

Auxiliary Practice is Wednesday at 4:30 and Thursday from 4:00 to 5:30 PM

Please understand I will be monitoring the weather each and every day, and by 2:45 you will know if a sectional is cancelled.  Also, please continue to wear masks, and face shields.  Always social distance, and as soon as I know about a playoff game I will be in touch.  Please try to get as much of this information in your calendars as possible.  A reminder that all senior surveys are due back to me by tomorrow.  If you need another form, please let me know.

As always, I appreciate all you are doing, and I thank you for continuing to make music education a priority in your kids’ lives.  Have a great rest of your day, and continue to EMBRACE THE CHALLENGE.  Yes, to those who asked, there are more motivational videos and rocky clips coming.  ROCK ON WILDCATS!!

Marching Band Safety Proceedures

8/24/2020

Please see the band's safety guidelines below:

PRIDE of Mayfield Safety Procedures (Updated)
Temperature Checks:
  • Every student MUST be temperature checked prior to entering rehearsal/games (including sectionals)
  • Any student with a reading of 100.4℉ or above will NOT be permitted to participate and will be asked to be picked up immediately

Social Distancing:
  • Students are distanced on the field and in the stands. Any congregation of students is strictly prohibited and physical distancing will be enforced at all times.
  • To increase spacing between students, the band will be sitting in the student section area of the bleachers rather than the band bleachers.
  • To avoid additional congregation, students will NOT march up to the field from the high school on game nights.

Additional Safety Procedures:
  • Face masks are required at all times, except when ACTIVELY playing.
  • New commands, including “mask up” and “mask down” have been introduced to avoid speaking during commands, cadences, etc.  without masks.
  • Students are responsible for keeping track of their own music and equipment, as loaners/additional copies of music will not be handed out, no exceptions.
  • Water will be permitted in stands, but it must be clearly labeled with the student’s name
  • Students will be limited by how many can use the restroom at one time.

Return To HS Band Family Survey

7/24/2020

PRIDE of Mayfield Students and Families,

Please click on the link below and fill out the survey regarding our return to HS Band this season.  Our hope is to gain as much information regarding student comfort and safety as possible.  In this un-foreseen and unsure time the goal is to provide a plan for band instruction that students and families are comfortable with.

It is crucial that ALL band families fill out the survey by Wednesday, July 29th.  Our planning moving forward will be shaped based on the information collected from this survey.  Student show shirts will be ordered based on the responses and sizes collected.  Again, our goal is to create a schedule and plan centered on student safety in an effort to create an environment that is comfortable given our current circumstances.

All the Best,
Mr. Treiber & The PRIDE of Mayfield Staff
